Mid-Summer Maintenance Checklist

Keep Your Motorcycle or ATV Running Cool All Season Long

The hottest months of the riding season are here, and a few minutes of preventative maintenance can help prevent breakdowns, improve performance, and keep you riding instead of wrenching.

A little maintenance now goes a long way toward keeping your motorcycle or ATV reliable through the heat of summer. Ride smart, stay cool, and enjoy every mile of the season.

Before your next ride, run through this quick checklist:

✅ Check your coolant level – Make sure the radiator and overflow reservoir are filled to the proper level when the engine is cool.

✅ Inspect your radiator – Remove mud, bugs, and debris from the radiator fins to maximize airflow and cooling efficiency.

✅ Look for leaks – Check hoses, clamps, the water pump, and around the radiator for any signs of coolant seepage.

✅ Inspect radiator hoses – Look for cracks, swelling, or soft spots that could lead to failure under pressure.

✅ Check engine oil – Fresh oil helps carry heat away from internal engine components and keeps everything properly lubricated.

✅ Clean or replace the air filter – A clean filter helps your engine breathe easier, improving performance and reducing unnecessary heat.

✅ Inspect the chain and sprockets – Clean, lubricate, and adjust chain tension according to your owner's manual.

✅ Check tire pressure – Proper tire pressure improves handling, traction, and overall performance on the trail or track.

✅ Inspect your brakes – Make sure pads have plenty of material remaining and verify the brake fluid is at the proper level.

✅ Don't ignore engine temperature – If your machine starts running hotter than normal, investigate the cause before it becomes a bigger (and more expensive) problem.

A little maintenance now will save you down the road. Enjoy.
