ARE YOU READY FOR COLDER WEATHER AHEAD?
Fall riding season is here, bringing crisp air, changing leaves, and some of the best riding conditions of the year. However, many parts of the country will soon experience their first freeze, making now the perfect time to prepare for cooler temperatures.
Is your machine ready? Checking your cooling system and confirming that your coolant provides the proper freeze protection can help prevent costly damage when temperatures drop.
Here are five things every rider should check before freezing temperatures arrive:
- Coolant and freeze protection - Confirm your coolant is fresh, properly filled, and rated for the lowest temperatures expected in your area.
- Battery condition - Cold weather reduces battery performance. Check the charge, clean the terminals, and use a battery maintainer during extended storage.
- Tire pressure and condition - Tire pressure drops as temperatures fall. Inspect the tread and adjust pressure according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Fuel system - Keep fresh fuel in the tank and add a fuel stabilizer if the machine will sit unused for an extended period.
- Storage and weather protection - Store the machine in a dry, protected location whenever possible. Check for moisture, leaks, and exposed components that could be damaged by freezing conditions.
A little preparation now can keep you riding longer and your machine protected throughout the colder months ahead.
